Edwardian Gibson Girl Celluloid Hair Comb

$85.00

What a pretty thing! This celluloid hair comb dates from the 1910s when women grew their hair long and piled it on top of their heads in the famed "Gibson girl" style. A comb like this one is just the decorative tool they needed to keep their hairstyle in place. This particular comb is in a pale, translucent butterscotch color with ethereal little green flowers painted along the uppermost border. The row of flowers undulate in a naturalistic way and are enhanced with citrine and emerald colored rhinestones. This type of comb is perfectly suited for a wedding up-do or is a chic way to improve your bohemian messy bun! The teeth are approximately 3" long and span 1-3/8" wide. The angled decorative portion is 1-1/2" high on the short side and 3" high on the tall side. The flower border spans approximately 5-1/4". This comb is in excellent condition with no breaks or cracks in the celluloid and no paint loss whatsoever. This is a beautiful antique object that is 100% wearable! A real beauty!
